Swimming at Hale is different. Our friendly instructors stand ready to greet you on one of three sun-splashed beaches. Our picturesque ponds are tinted by natural tannins, not chemically bleached. Our attentive lifeguards keep a watchful eye on every waterfront.
Group Lessons cater to children. Older toddlers and younger preschoolers can get started in Tadpoles, which establishes comfort with water and introduces the concept of lessons. Ages 3+ can move through six levels of American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes in which they build confidence, increase stamina, and refine strokes. Other highlights include:
Low swimmer-to-staff ratios
Highly trained instructors certified by the Red Cross
Fun, friendship, and learning
Private Lessons are available to all ages (starting at 6 months). Personal instruction ensures lessons are tailored to each swimmer’s age, ability, and learning style. Adults are welcome to take private lessons as well—it’s never too late to learn to swim.
Lap Swim is on offer, too. Available for ages 18+, this lane-free option is popular with everyone from folks training for triathlons to local seniors. A monthly Lap Swim Pass offers value and convenience. Single sessions are available for those who swim less frequently.
My three boys love participating in the weekday swimming lessons and activities, playing at the beach, and boating. I also especially love the quieter evenings at the beach and lap swimming. The beach and grounds are beautiful and the staff are incredible—we all adore the lifeguards, counselors, and volunteers.Laura Garabedian
Group Swimming Lessons
We deliver group lessons on weekdays and weeknights. No matter what format or schedule you select, swimmers can expect to progress through several levels over the course of one or more seasons.
Tadpoles
Ages 2–4 approach the pond through games, songs, and waterfront activities. Small groups of 6 work with masked instructors who provide hands-on assistance while parents and siblings relax on the beach.
Levels 1 and 2
Levels 1 and 2 are an ideal place to begin for ages 3 and up. Lessons in shallow water help them acclimate to water and get comfortable with flotation through a variety of aquatic activities.
Levels 3 and 4
Frequented by young elementary-school-age children, Levels 3 and 4 feature more direct instruction and introduce basic analogies that facilitate reasoning (e.g. sink like a rock, float like balloon).
Levels 5 and 6
Generally tackled by older elementary-school-age children and tweens, Levels 5 and 6 include more demonstrations, drills, and practice-to-learn as a means of increasing speed and efficiency in the water.
What about the rest of the family?
Great question! At Hale, parents are required to be on-site while their swimmers participate in lessons. But why watch from behind a glass partition or uncomfortable bleachers when you and your family could be building sandcastles, enjoying free swim, paddling around the pond, or relaxing with a good book? Register for our Family Programs or Beach Time and do just that! You can even add swimmers who are already participating in group lessons at no extra charge, so they can join you for more fun in the sun before and after their lessons.
