Position Description

Summary

  • Ensure the safety of facility patrons and campers by recognizing and responding to emergencies, and practicing preventative lifeguarding
  • Assist with recreational aspects of program (including lessons, special events, etc.)
  • Participate in the general upkeep and maintenance of the property
  • Complete all necessary records and reports

Duties and Skills

  • Scan water at all times ensuring the safety of patrons
  • Remain alert at all times and prepared to activate or react to the Emergency Action Procedure
  • Adhere to “The Professional Lifeguard” in both action and attire, as defined by the American Red Cross
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations, educating patrons when needed
  • Attend and participate in all in-service trainings throughout the season
  • Assist with swim lessons when appropriate to do so, offering hands-on assists to students and demonstrating skills that are within your ability
  • Assist with special events with energy and enthusiasm
  • Act as a positive role model at all times while on duty
  • Perform Opening and Closing duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Be an active participant in “Leave No Trace” by picking up trash or cleaning anything that may be unsafe or unsightly
  • Inspect and clean bathrooms daily
  • Report any broken materials, damaged facilities, or anything that may be unsafe to patrons or campers in a timely fashion to a supervisor on duty, or to the program director
  • Fill out all incident reports in a timely and accurate fashion
  • Perform lost bather drills and other EAP procedures periodically throughout the summer
  • Participate in meaningful debriefs following an incident
  • Maintain personal health (both physical and mental) throughout the summer
  • Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance)
  • Complete additional duties assigned by supervisor

Requirements

Certification in CPR, AED, and LGT (American Red Cross or equivalent) is required and may be obtained prior to employment. Candidates should also possess basic language and math skills, have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety situations, manage time and schedules well, and be comfortable using Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms. This position demands regular physical activity, clear vision, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
